| A Year In Tara
The Housing (Miscellaneous Provisions) 2002 Act allowed Gardai and contractors sweeping powers in relation to protest (including impounding of vehicles). **and the SIB finished the thing off , by allowing for a re-structuring of the Irish courts and Planning System which reduces citizen say and ameliorates the crony developer role. It could be called a charter for corruption. Tara was left unprotected by Irish law and the Protestors faced into criminalisation and violence for highlighting the abuse of office by the named TD's. The 11 protestors are facing court again on January the 21st 2008 and the usual support is welcomed. John Gormley took up the revolving Environment Chair and will probably work hard with Roche on Lisbon as well. He has refused to meet with the protestors nor to listen to the EU who have accused the Irish of Breach- his response:- "My Hands are tied".
Mariners Notebook: A title in his sights
PEORIA, Ariz. -- Before his first full-squad workout of the spring on Wednesday, Mariners manager John McLaren had a few choice words for his players. "I told them to have a plan to reach our goal of getting to the playoffs," McLaren said. McLaren, who has spent most of the past 15 years in Seattle as a coach, knows full well the Mariners have never made the World Series. The club hasn't even made it to the playoffs since 2001. The manager has visions of bigger things -- much bigger. He'd like to have a World Series victory parade in Seattle come season's end. "It could be Fourth Avenue, Third Avenue, First Avenue," he said. "I don't care. We'll take 'em all." McLaren is in his first full season at the helm. He took over from Mike Hargrove on June 2 last year after Hargrove's unexpected resignation.

Shelbyville's post office is taking precautions to make sure the potentially deadly MRSA or "staph" infection isn't spread through the mail after two employees became infected with the bacteria. The T-G received a call Thursday from a concerned citizen who claimed that Shelbyville's postmaster Larry Ellis was allowing a postal employee with a staph infection to continue to work, possibly exposing the public to the bug... .
Political background to the CPE protests
We are reposting the following series of articles on the revolt of the French working class in November-December 1995 in the hope that it will help to clarify the political background to the present upheaval in that country. The ongoing revolt by millions of youth and workers is a further response to the effort by the French ruling class to slash or eliminate entirely the social gains made in decades of struggle. In November-December 1995, the working class revolted against efforts by the right-wing regime of Prime Minister Alain Juppé to reform the social security system, just as today the government of Dominique de Villepin is reforming Frances labor laws. In 1995 millions of workers, led by the transport workers in particular, rejected the claims made by the government and the media and recognized the maneuver for what it wasan attempt to shift the burden of the social costs on to the back of the working population.

A pickup in international travel and income from add-on services have also helped American, which expects its mainline passenger unit revenue for the quarter to rise by between 3.8% and 4.8%. • Fuel costs: Though they have eased from 2006 highs, jet fuel prices are about 15% higher than a year earlier. However, Morgan Stanley analysts estimate American's fourth-quarter fuel bill could come in about 6% lower due in part to the flight cancellations. .
Singer-Songwriters Set Sail on Cayamo Cruise
Editor's note: CMT writer-producer Craig Shelburne shares his notes from last week's Cayamo cruise, a Caribbean voyage featuring live performance from several of his favorite singer-songwriters. Feb. 4: It's the first night of the Cayamo cruise, which collects a whole bunch of cool songwriters that I happen to love. John Hiatt headlined the late show tonight. Man, that guy is so good, even when he just plays solo. He wrote one of my favorite opening lines ever, in "Icy Blue Heart": "She came onto him like a slow-moving cold front." Emmylou Harris, who's singing later in the week, once recorded that song, too. He started with "Drive South," which is (poetically speaking) what we are doing tonight. Plus, since he has a new CD coming in May, he added a few new songs to his set. Tomorrow is a full day at sea.

But it was only over time, the media bringing it up, old friends talking about it and asking about it, that I've come to see just what an incredible event it was. I made some strong statements about it at the time, but remember, right after we won that game, we had to fly back to L.A. and get ready for the next one, and the one after that. Sports is hard to be involved in and see the big picture." What had happened, whether Goux was too busy to see it or not, was that a region looked into its collective Christian conscience and knew that they could no longer interpret the Bible from a racist perspective. For the Greek-American USC linebacker John Papadakis, who found himself as the liaison bridging the volatile black-white world that still divided the Trojans, it fulfilled the Platonic ideals that shaped his life and gave it meaning.
